Location: Zion National Park, Springdale UT

Overview:

This internship position will be working with the Education team at Zion National Park. The summer education staff is based out of the Zion Nature Center in Zion Canyon where ranger programs, hands-on activities, and interactive displays are offered in the summer.

The intern will be responsible for learning and presenting programs to youth and families and assisting with additional outreach programming. The intern will also staff the information desk at the Nature Center and a Junior Ranger table for park visitors. In addition, interns will swear in Junior Rangers and conduct “drop-in” programs throughout Zion Canyon, while providing general support of Zion’s Youth Program. Interns may have the opportunity to develop their own Junior Ranger program throughout the season.

The position is developmental in nature, though the intern has opportunities to take on greater responsibilities according to ability, desire, and supervisor approval. Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather, including wind, rain, sun, and heat. Temperatures in Zion Canyon can reach 115 degrees in the summer. Work involves standing for long periods of time and walking over rough and uneven terrain. Interns must wear a uniform (shirt and hat provided). Job offers will be dependent on a cleared background check.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting interactive tables at the Zion Visitor Center and Nature Center for Junior Rangers.
  • Hiking park trails to interact with visitors and assisting with the overall operations of the Zion Youth Program.
  • Work during evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.

  • Applicants must enjoy working with families and youth.
  • Have great customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Interested in education and youth programming.
